What a year it has been! Hard to believe that it was early March 2020 when we last played basketball. Our summer season came to an abrupt end! Who would have imagined? Not only that, but we missed out on an entire winter season and sadly now half of the normal Summer 20-21 season. We hope that you and your families have safely gotten through this 1 in a 100 year event, and like the JETS community, are looking forward to a healthy and positive 2021. Our club objective as always is kids playing basketball with friends and most importantly having fun.

With the recent extended run of ‘double doughnuts’, we can now put basketball firmly back on the radar. Earlier this week, Basketball Victoria confirmed that indoor basketball can now return in accordance with the Orange-50 indoor competition/training reactivation status – which means a maximum of 50 people per court
• 10 players per team
• 1 parent/guardian per player
• 2 officials / referees
• 1 scorer per team
• 3 coaches / team managers per team

While there are obviously still concerns about the virus re-appearing, we now fully expect that the shortened Summer season will go ahead as planned by the MBA. The MBA junior summer 2020/21 season will be an 8 game season running from 30/31 Jan to 27/28 March as outlined on their website. We also expect that winter season will go ahead as per normal

REGISTRATION

We have now opened registrations for Summer 2021 in PlayHQ. Importantly registrations for JETS CLOSE 5PM on MONDAY 4th JAN. Registration must be accompanied by payment to be accepted; using either a credit or debit card. If you previously registered in Winter 2020 and have decided not to register for this shortened season, we would ask you to please email admin@ormondjets.com.au or your coordinator to let us know.

The JETS’ fee for juniors (U10-U20) for this shortened Summer season is $135. No discount applies for siblings. We are basing our fee on the full 8 games (including a final for all teams on the last weekend) and the expectation that everyone will still have the ability to train each week. Due to the shortened season and the likelihood of some COVID restrictions we will not be holding presentations and have decided therefore not to have trophies / medallions.

If you are registering your child in PlayHQ for the first time you will also need to pay the Basketball Victoria Annual Participant Licence fee of $25 for each child. If you have paid that previously in March or June, you will not have to pay that again as long as you use the same profiles. You will find that their BV licence is now active from Jan 2021 instead.

You will also need to pay the MBA entry fee which they are now charging as an upfront $48 door entry fee that is compulsory for every player. It covers the player and one spectator. This will help speed up entry and reduce possible transmission of COVID-19 through handling cash at the door. If government restrictions allow for additional spectators there will not be any additional entry fees on game day.

Please fill in all the fields in PlayHQ. This information is important and helps the running of the club. If a field is not relevant put NONE or NA. You will need to enter your Working With Children Check information if you have one.

SEASON INFORMATION

There will be no formal grading this summer season, however the MBA will be able to move teams in the first 3 weeks if they are obviously in the wrong grades. Finals will be restricted to one week with all teams getting a game on the final weekend wherever possible.

Regarding training, the DHHS & Education Department guidelines for use of school’s gymnasiums mean there will be COVID-19 entry and exit restrictions as well as attendance recording and extensive cleaning requirements. These restrictions will impact our normal training roster in terms of length and timing of sessions. Training in the first week or so may be reduced or limited to group sessions or may not be able to be held at all. Please bear with us as we work through this. We will keep you informed as best we can.

If there is any change to any of the above we will be in touch. We look forward to the kids getting back on the court after the school holidays.

The JETS’ fee for Seniors for this shortened summer season is $120. (which includes the door fee for the player) and no training.

• U18 Boys Coordinator
• Uniform Officer
• Venue Manager

Each of these volunteer positions will entitle you to a discount of one child’s fees.
