ABOUT US

WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE ORMOND JETS

Where we have fun and make friends.

The Ormond Jets welcomes all and provides a foundation for juniors who are looking to take their game to the next level. We will provide basketballers the opportunity to play for its pure pleasure, whilst providing coaches and administrators the opportunity to contribute to the development of the game at grass roots within the local community.

Friendship and Fun

The Ormond Jets Basketball Club prides itself on organising teams to facilitate friendships and player development.

Our teams are based around Player and Parent requests.  Parents can specify

  • one friend that they wish to play with
  • if they want to play in the highest grade

We aim to have 8 players in each team.  This number ensures every one gets reasonable court time.

We will provide opportunity for our players to improve their skills and play in the best competition they can. The MBA representative program is the main vehicle if children specifically want to further develop their skills beyond domestic basketball.

Parents, Coaches, Anyone!!

We prefer adult coaches for our children where possible, for the following reasons:

  • Positive role models – particularly reinforcing teamwork, friendship and sportsmanship
  • Developing life skills as the focus rather than just basketball skills

Parent coaches are provided with coaching skills training and guidance (training and match day). Parent coaches do not have to be experienced basketballers; more important is a love of working with children and a willingness to develop as a basketball coach. Coaches will receive a gift or voucher as a thank you for their time and effort spent during the season.

We expect our parents to be active and supportive members – whether it be on the committee, as team managers, assistant coaches, helping the coach with moral support at training and at games or the like. The Ormond Jets is a club run by volunteers.

We will NOT accept unsportsmanlike behaviour ON or OFF the court from our players, coaches or parents – we will publish and enforce a code of conduct. Our players and parents must respect their coaches, team mates, opposition and referees. We will also play the game in a positive and sportsmanlike manner.
